Dr. Debra Johnson, Physician:
Debra Johnson was student body president of Exeter Union High School in 1973. She attended Girls State and served on a student advisory council to her local assemblyman, Gordon Duffy. She went on to graduate from UC Irvine and the Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Johnson spent two years working for Indian Health Clinics in Northern California, to repay her National Health Service Corps obligation. Dr. Johnson then returned to Stanford to complete her training in plastic and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Johnson has practiced in Sacramento since 1989 as part of The Plastic Surgery Center, a single-specialty group practice. She serves as co-director of the Sutter Cleft Panel, carrying for children born with craniofacial defects. She has served as chief of plastic surgery and chief of surgery for the Sutter Medical Centers of Sacramento. Dr. Johnson is a past-president of the California Society of Plastic Surgeons and is co-chair of the Legislative Committee. She was recently elected member-at-large to the Board of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Dr. Johnson became involved in international volunteer medical work as a medical student, and has participated in over 50 missions providing teaching and free reconstructive surgery in developing nations. Dr. Johnson and her husband, Mario Gutierrez, have two adult children, Gabriela and Pablo, and are currently nurturing 2.5 acres in Napa in hopes of a sustainable retirement.
