SABLE 2008 Proposals
SABE 2007 Proposals

At the 2007 Student Advisory Board on Education in November, 100 students from throughout California met in Sacramento to address critical issues in our school system. They met with 16 state legislative offices and the State Board of Education about the student's proposed solutions. In February, the youth will return for the follow-up conference, the Student Advisory Board on Legislation in Education, at which they will continue to refine their proposals, meeting with the State Senate and Assembly Committees on Education and other education leaders.

SABLE 2008: The follow-up to SABE 2007 - February 25-27, 2008 - Registration Form (for SABE 2007 delegates only)

Check back this spring for more information about the 2008 Student Advisory Board on Education.

About SABE - the Student Advisory Board on Education - is a statewide conference that gives California's students the unique and unprecedented opportunity to address the California State Board of Education directly. At SABE, 100 students representing schools from all over California convene in Sacramento and select five issues that they consider the most pressing in California 's schools. The delegates are then split into seven groups, each addressing one of the selected issues. Each group formulates innovative solutions with the help of a trained peer counselor. The five-day conference culminates with a presentation by one student from each of the seven groups to the California State Board of Education.

In the past, results from SABE have included altering statewide graduation requirements for high school students, and changes in curriculum. This is the only conference in the nation that allows students to directly address their State Board of Education, and the results have made a big impact in our schools.

About SABLE - the Student Advisory Board on Legislation in Education - is the follow-up conference for SABE. At SABLE, the same delegation returns to continue tacking the issues they selected at SABE. Students at SABLE have the opportunity to discuss their ideas at a special joint meeting of the California State Senate and Assembly Committees on Education.

Both conferences are enlightening, empowering experiences that are part of CASC’s effort to give California’s students a voice in their education.

Do students stay in a hotel? What about meals?: All the SABE delegates will stay in one hotel, and we arrange rooming and meals so students can focus on having a great time and being productive. The registration fee covers the hotel and meals (see the registration form above for more details).

Does it cost anything to attend? How can I attend if I can't pay the fee? Yes, there is a registration fee for SABE/SABLE - see the see the registration form above for the exact prices. However, all students can attend SABE/SABLE, regardless of their ability to pay the registration fee. Usually, schools pay for their students to attend. Alternatively, scholarships are available: contact the CASC office.

Location: Best Western Sutter House Sacramento

Transportation and times: Participants arrange their own transportation to the hotel; typically, many students fly in from around the state and take Supershuttle to the site. Delegates will receive a confirmation letter with specific details after you register for the conference.
